Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how MyLineageTree (“MyLineageTree”, “we”, “us” or “our”) handles information when you use the website, family-tree editor, account features and related services.

Information we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive the account information Google makes available for authentication, such as your name, email address, profile image and Google account identifier. We also keep the account, entitlement, tree-name, sharing and service metadata needed to operate MyLineageTree.

Your family-tree content may include names, relationships, dates, places, biographies, photographs, audio, video and other information that you choose to add. You are responsible for having an appropriate basis to add and share information about other people, particularly living relatives.

Where your family tree is stored

Free trees are kept in your browser’s local storage. If you have Full Access and connect Google Drive, your family-tree file and supported media are saved in your own Google Drive. MyLineageTree uses Google’s limited drive.file permission, which allows the service to work with files that the application creates or that you explicitly open with it, rather than unrestricted access to all files in your Drive.

We may temporarily process or cache tree data when required to load, save, export or provide a private shared view. We do not use your family-tree content for advertising.

Google services

Google sign-in and Google Drive are third-party services. Your use of Google services is also subject to the Google Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. Google may process information under its own policies independently of MyLineageTree.

Your browser and device

MyLineageTree relies on your web browser for features such as local storage, cookies, downloads and parts of the editing experience. Your browser, operating system, device manufacturer, extensions or other software may independently collect or process information under their own privacy policies and terms. Their practices are not controlled by MyLineageTree.

Payments

Payments are handled by the payment provider configured for the website. We may keep transaction and entitlement information needed to confirm your purchase and provide Full Access. Payment providers process payment information under their own terms and privacy policies. MyLineageTree does not intentionally store full payment-card details.

Cookies, local storage and security

We use cookies and similar browser storage where needed for authentication, security, account sessions, editor recovery and product functionality. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no online service, browser storage or cloud service can guarantee absolute security.

Private sharing

If you enable a private viewing link, anyone who obtains that link may be able to view the information you chose to share. You can disable or regenerate the link. Privacy controls for living people are provided to help you reduce what is displayed, but you remain responsible for deciding what information is appropriate to share.

Retention and account deletion

We keep account and service information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, meet security and legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements. You can permanently delete your MyLineageTree account from the Account page. During deletion you can choose whether MyLineageTree-created data in your connected Google Drive should also be moved to Drive trash. If you leave that option unchecked, files in your Google Drive remain under your control.

Some limited records may be retained where required by law, for fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution or legitimate security purposes.

Your choices

You can disconnect Google Drive, revoke MyLineageTree’s Google permissions through your Google Account, turn off private sharing, export or copy your files, and delete your account. Browser-stored free trees can also be removed through the product or your browser’s storage controls.

Children and sensitive information

Do not use the service to publish information unlawfully. Take particular care with information about children, living relatives and other sensitive personal information. If you are not legally permitted to provide or share particular information, do not add or share it through MyLineageTree.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the service changes. The version published on this website is the current version. Material changes may be highlighted where appropriate.
