Terms of Service

Terms of Service

Effective date: 25 September 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of My Lineage Tree (“MyLineageTree”, “we”, “us” or “our”), including the website at mylineagetree.com, the family-tree editor, account features, Google integrations, Full Access features, exports, private sharing and related services (the “Service”). MyLineageTree is operated from Jamaica.

By creating an account, using the Service or purchasing Full Access, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

MyLineageTree provides tools to create, edit, organize, present, preserve, export and privately share family trees and family-history information.

Features may include family relationships, biographies, photographs, family events and timelines, audio and video memories, visual themes, exports, private read-only sharing and optional Google Drive storage. Free and Full Access features differ, as described on the website.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or purchase Full Access.

3. Your account

You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your Google account, email, devices and other credentials secure.

You must not access another person’s account, private tree, sharing controls or administrative functions without permission.

Please tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Google Sign-In and Google Drive

MyLineageTree uses Google Sign-In to sign you in.

With Full Access, you may choose to connect Google Drive so MyLineageTree can create and update your family-tree file and supported media in your own Google Drive. MyLineageTree uses Google’s limited drive.file permission, which only gives access to files MyLineageTree creates or that you open with it, not to the rest of your Drive.

How we handle Google user data is explained in our Privacy Policy. Your use of Google services is also governed by Google’s own terms and policies. Google controls its services, storage limits, accounts and availability.

5. Your family content

You own the family-tree content you create or upload.

You give MyLineageTree a limited, non-exclusive permission to process your content only as needed to provide the features you use, such as editing, displaying, saving, exporting, sharing, keeping working copies and working with your Google Drive.

This permission ends when the content is deleted, subject to reasonable technical, legal and backup retention periods described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Responsibility for family information

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to use and share the information you add, and that it is accurate where you present it as fact.

You must respect other people’s privacy, intellectual-property and other rights. Take particular care with photographs, stories, dates, addresses, health information or other sensitive information about living people and children.

MyLineageTree does not verify genealogical information.

7. Free and Full Access

The free version may limit the number of trees, people, storage or features available.

Full Access unlocks the features described at the time of purchase. Where Full Access is described as supporting unlimited people, this means we do not set a commercial limit on the number of people in a tree. Performance may still depend on your browser, device, file size, Google Drive storage and network connection, and reasonable technical, security and abuse-prevention limits may apply.

Any limit on the number of separate trees per account will be shown in the Service.

8. Payments

Where Full Access is sold as a one-time purchase, payment unlocks Full Access for the purchasing account according to the offer shown at checkout.

Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider. Taxes, currency conversion, bank or card charges may apply. We do not store your full payment-card details.

9. Promotional codes

We may offer promotional or discount codes. Codes may have start and expiry dates, usage limits, per-user limits or other conditions shown with the promotion.

Codes have no cash value and may not be sold, copied, manipulated or used against their conditions. We may reject or disable codes used fraudulently or against their conditions.

10. Refunds

Refunds are handled according to any refund policy shown at the time of purchase and applicable law. To request a refund, email [email protected].

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the Jamaica Consumer Protection Act or other consumer laws that cannot legally be excluded.

11. Private sharing

Private viewing links are for read-only family sharing. Anyone with a valid link can view the information that link shows.

You decide who receives the link and what information it shows. You can disable or regenerate a link when access should end. Privacy controls for living relatives are there to help you, but you remain responsible for your sharing decisions.

12. Exports and copies

MyLineageTree may let you create PDF, PNG, print or other exports. Exports may contain personal information that was visible in your tree when created. You are responsible for storing, distributing and protecting exported copies.

13. Support, reviews and feedback

You can send questions, issue reports, reviews or other feedback through our support tools.

You keep ownership of original material in your feedback, and you allow us to use non-confidential feedback to improve the Service. We will not publish your review with your name or identifying details without your permission.

14. Acceptable use

You must not use MyLineageTree to:

  • break the law or infringe others’ intellectual-property or privacy rights;
  • impersonate others, or harass or exploit people;
  • distribute malware;
  • gain unauthorized access to, probe, attack or interfere with the Service or other users;
  • send automated or abusive requests, scrape the Service at unreasonable scale, or overload its infrastructure; or
  • bypass payments, Full Access, tree limits, sharing restrictions, sign-in or other safeguards.

15. Protecting the Service

We may apply reasonable rate limits, technical restrictions or temporary access controls where needed to protect users, our systems, third-party services or MyLineageTree from abuse, fraud, security threats or excessive automated use.

16. Browser and device requirements

MyLineageTree needs a compatible web browser, device and internet connection. Free trees use browser storage. Editing, recovery, exports and downloads may depend on your browser and device. We cannot guarantee compatibility with every browser, extension, operating system or device.

17. Backups and availability

Please keep your own copies of family-history information that is important to you.

Google Drive integration keeps Full Access family-tree files in your own Drive, but no browser, cloud provider, network or online service can guarantee uninterrupted access or zero data loss. Availability may be affected by maintenance, internet connectivity, browser changes, hosting providers, Google services and other third parties.

18. Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Account page or by emailing [email protected].

During deletion, you can choose whether MyLineageTree-created files in your connected Google Drive should also be moved to your Drive trash. If Drive deletion cannot be completed, you may need to reconnect Google Drive or try again. What happens to your data after deletion is described in our Privacy Policy.

19. Third-party services

MyLineageTree relies on services such as Google, payment processors, hosting providers and email providers, which operate under their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for their outages, account decisions, storage limits, policy changes or other matters outside our reasonable control.

20. Our intellectual property

The MyLineageTree software, interface, name, branding, artwork and designs belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. These Terms do not transfer ownership of them to you. You may use the Service only as these Terms allow.

21. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or restrict an account where reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, fraud, security risks or a serious breach of these Terms. Where appropriate and possible, we will give notice and a chance to fix the issue.

You may stop using MyLineageTree and delete your account at any time.

22. Changes to features

We may maintain, improve, change or update MyLineageTree over time. A one-time Full Access purchase does not guarantee that every third-party integration or individual feature will remain available forever. Where reasonably possible, we will avoid unnecessary loss of family information you control when making significant changes.

23. Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by law, MyLineageTree is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that genealogical information entered by users is correct, that the Service will always be uninterrupted, or that third-party services will always be available.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

24. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyLineageTree and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses arising from use of, or inability to use, the Service, including loss of data, disclosure through a sharing link you created, or failures of third-party services.

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

25. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as MyLineageTree changes. The current version is always published on mylineagetree.com with its effective date. For material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email. Updated Terms apply from the date they are published, unless the law requires otherwise. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

26. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, subject to any mandatory consumer or privacy rights that apply to you where you live.

If you have a concern, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Jamaica.
